POEA cancels license of overcharging recruitment agency

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration recently cancelled the license of Lifeline International Philippines, Inc. for collecting excessive placement fee from an applicant for a job in Taiwan.

Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said the applicant complained that Lifeline International asked him to pay PhP120,000 as placement fee. He was able to pay PhP50,000 but was not issued a receipt.

Cacdac said the amount required by the agency or the money actually paid by the applicant was way bigger than the prevailing wage of PhP27,000.00 in Taiwan. POEA rules limit the payment of placement fee to an amount equivalent to one month salary of the worker.

Philippine Embassy: We do not recommend our nationals who have no Iqama to surrender themselves. Embassy is waiting for an official confirmation to Labor Minister Adel al Fakieh’s statement about the amnesty.

The Ministry of Labor’s response: The project is under study.

The statements made by the Minister of Labor Adel Al -Fakieh about the amnesty for illegal and overstaying foreigners, without being penalized in exchanged for surrendering themselves then repatriation has prompted the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia to advise its nationals to not to surrender themselves until it receives an official confirmation, on the status of illegal and overstaying Filipino workers and granting final exit visas.

Brother Hussein confirmed to us na nagawa ni OFW Monia ang mga sumusunod bilang patunay ng kanyang pagbagong buhay.

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh successfully held its second consular outreach services or “Embassy on Wheels” (EOW) for 2013 at the Philippine International School in Buraydah (PISB) in Buraydah, Qassim on 24 to 25 January 2013. The EOW in Buraydah served 467 Filipinos.

The mood was all festive. Everyone was dazzling and dressed for the momentous occasion. “Sinulog Siyagit ug Kusog! Pit Senyor, Pit Senyor,” the crowd chanted as Filipino Catholics trooped to the Holy Family Cathedral to celebrate the ‘Sinulog’ Festival.

Saying that the government’s reintegration programs have enriched local opportunities for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday bared that the year 2012 has been a year where more OFWs ventured into entrepreneurship.

11 January 2013 – In view of the low client turnout on Sundays, the DFA has decided to discontinue its Sunday operations in the following Regional Consular Offices (RCOs) and Metro Manila satellite offices beginning January 13:

Dalawang OFWs Naaksidente sa Al Baha, isa kritikal

Ang sasakyan na nakabundol sa dalawang OFWs

January 7, 2013, 10:58AM, Baha, KSA – naaksidente po ang ating kasamahan sa Patnubay na si Romeo “Ka Romy” Carbonell at kanyang kasama sa trabaho. Safe naman si Ka Romy pero ang kanyang kasamahang Pilipino ay nasa kritikal pa na kalagayan.

Pagkatapos ng assignment nila sa Al Baha ay bumiyahe sila papuntang Taif. Dumaan sila sa isang blind curve nang may tumawid na isang camel at  aksidente nila itong nabundol. Ang kanilang takbo ay nasa 80kph lamang. Safe naman sina Ka Romy at kanyang kasamahan at maging ang camel ay buhay din. Lumabas sila ng sasakyan para tatawag ng pulis.
