Fighting age discrimination in the Philippines

Pass a law to ban age discrimination in the workplace.

By Susan Ople
First Posted in ArabNews

On Labor Day, the Blas F. Ople Policy Center, a non-government organization that I head, launched an online petition urging Congress to pass a law against age discrimination in the workplace. As I write this column, more than 200 petitioners have signed up in a span of two and a half days. An uphill battle is expected considering the divided attention of Congress amid corruption cases, a draft Bangsamoro Basic Law as well as the 2015 national budget.

CHINA IS NOT ANYMORE SOCIALIST! IT IS NOW IMPERIALIST

CHINA IS NOT ANYMORE SOCIALIST! IT IS NOW IMPERIALIST
By Prof. Henry Francis Espiritu

Is the People’s Republic of China still a socialist State? I dare say: NOT ANYMORE! The undeniable fact is this: China is steadily becoming not just only rabidly capitalistic in its approach to its own political economy, but the present Chinese government likewise behaved itself as another rogue imperialist state in its territorial conflicts with Japan, the Philippines and yes, even in its conflict with another socialist state, Vietnam! China is a revisionist State and I hope that we must not drag the name of Marx or of Marxist socialism when we blame this present Chinese imperialistic ambition and aggressive bullying in the South China Sea or in the West Philippine Sea. China committed not just covert but overt aggression against another socialist state, Vietnam: in this case, can you still call China a socialist state when Marx taught that all socialist states must stand in solidarity with other socialist countries to fight capitalism, hegemony, and imperialism? The late Chinese Prime

KUWAIT CITY, April 26: The Representative of the Home Mutual Development Fund (PAG-IBIG Fund) Mahmoud Khalil urged all Filipino workers in Kuwait to avail the benefits of being a PAG-IBIG member after the Philippine government has imposed the mandatory contribution to all OFWs across the globe. Khalil made this call on Friday during the “Kapihan sa Kuwait” talk show at the Carlton Tower Hotel in Kuwait City.

HAGIT: Prinsipyo VS Kahipokritohan

ACFIL – TEAM BUILDERS ARE WOUNDED WARRIORS

TEAM BUILDERS ARE WOUNDED WARRIORS
By: MINDA TEVES

A group of 21 leaders coming from Padova, Turin and Milan gathered at Piazzale Susa, 1-Milan Italy last February 17,2013 to attend the ―TEAM BUILDING SEMINAR facilitated by Ms. Carol Medel-Anonuevo from Hamburg Germany the Deputy Director of UNESCO of Life-Long Learning.

The seminar was opened with a prayer and the Philippine National Anthem. The speaker distributed pieces of papers and asked all the participants to write down their expectations and different motivations why they have chosen to waste their precious time attending the seminar instead of staying at home and relax. Everybody was excited especially when the answers were read one by one. They even tried to guess who‘s written certain ideas. Well, there was one thing that came out as common to all that is ―CURIOSITY . We were actually curious on how to acquire knowledge to become an effective leader and at the same time bring out the common interest of everyone in the community and organize profitable and developmental activities.

ACFIL’s FINLIT SEMINAR

FINLIT SEMINAR
By: Gina dela Cruz

Yes! we made it again. The combined efforts of ACFIL and Pinoywise brought success to another Finlit seminar last 24th February 2013 at Via Morgari 14. We would like to thank our attendees who came on time in spite of the bad weather. The one day seminar includes the financial planning and possible investment for OFW’s and their families as well as helping OFWs in addressing barriers to reintegration.

After the seminar 3 attendees decided to start saving for their future by making their initial investment to SIDC cooperative.

The collaboration and complete attendance of the FCs in the spirit of ―kapit-Bisig‖ was not in vain because the participants responded positively to the challenge.

So friends out there don‘t miss the next seminar that you may become part of this worldwide struggle to make migration bring positive impact to the lives of many Filipinos!!!

The true leaders’ missions for the country – Atty JBJ

Source: DIRECT FROM THE LABOR FRONT By Atty Josephus Jimenez

The first mission of a true leader is to search, jointly with the people, for A COMMON VISION, a nation’s or an organization’s common aspiration, one that embodies the dreams, the desired situation, the long-range goals of the people. The leader must be able to articulate in few and simple words what the people wish fervently in their hearts and minds. He must not impose on the people what he personally wants. Rather, he must guide them in expressing their own genuine definition of the future that they choose to create for themselves and for their posterity. Moses was such a leader.

The second mission of a leader is to UNITE THE PEOPLE and in the pursuit of the common vision. This vision must be taught by him and his trusted co-teachers to all the people. The common vision should transcend all barriers, break all boundaries of social and economic status and political colors and ideological leanings. Uniting the people means that the leader must be able to create a unifying message of hope, a reassuring atmosphere, where the strong shall not oppress the weak, and the weak shall not rebel against the strong. Jesus Christ was such a leader.
