My Arabic is just conversational but for 13 years of my daily use of the language; I learned that there are many words in Arabic which are similar to ours.

For several years, I had wanted to make a list of all those words but I didn’t have the interest to do it. Last week, I was fired with enthusiasm to start listing and to my amazement, I was able to find more words than I had expected.

Such amazement drives me to write this article.

February 21, 2012 – International Mother Language Day: Mother tongue instruction and inclusive education

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 (30C/62).

On 16 May 2009 the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/61/266called upon Member States “to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world”. By the same resolution, the General Assembly proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages, to promote unity in diversity and international understanding, through multilingualism and multiculturalism.

OFW Movie “Lawas Kan Pinabli” will be shown at CINEMA REHIYON Movie Festival in Bacolod City. The CINEMA REHIYON is a four day event (February 8  - 11, 2012) which features independent films set in various regions of the Philippines.  Lawas Kan Pinabli is scheduled for showing on February 11, 2012, Saturday, 10 AM  at Robinsons Movieworld Cinema 6. Admission is free.

Patnubay Advocates Language Preservation

Language preservation is very important because when a language dies, the next generation will find it difficult to understand their past culture and tradition.

When patnubay.com was launched in year 2005, the Preservation of the Philippine Native Languages was our secondary objective. However, due to our limited number of volunteers, we focused mainly on the OFW Empowerment and on assisting OFWs in labor, police and welfare cases

We have achieved impressive success on these primary objectives but the Language Preservation did not materialize until OFW Christopher Gozum joined Patnubay
