As representatives of over 20 civil society organizations and trade unions from Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, and Sri Lanka, we met at the “Civil Society Parallel Event on the 2nd Abu Dhabi Dialogue” on 17-19 April 2012 in Manila, Philippines. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss our common positions and engagement with the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD) process.

Labor Ministers From 19 Countries Meet for Second ‘Abu Dhabi Dialogue’

(Manila) – Labor ministers from 19 Asian and Middle Eastern countries should endorse protections for migrant workers and increase dialogue with civil society, Migrant Forum Asia and Human Rights Watch said today. The ministers are meeting in Manila from April 17 to 19, 2012, as part of the second round of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, an inter-regional consultation between labor-sending countries and labor-receiving countries on contractual migrant workers.

The Shoura Council rejected a move to tax the incomes of individual expatriate workers in the public and private sectors at its 18th regular session yesterday.

The session was chaired by Council Vice President Dr. Mohammed bin Amin Jafri.  Secretary-General of the Shoura Council Dr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi said the council made the decision after hearing the arguments for and against the proposal.
