Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mr. Ezzedin Tago and Jeddah-based Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay visited the King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah on 15 April and met with its President H.E. Dr. Osama Sadik Al-Tayeb. During their meeting, they discussed educational cooperation between the two countries, especially between the King Abdulaziz University and Philippine universities.
Dr. Al-Tayeb welcomed Ambassador Tago to the KAU Campus and confirmed the university’s readiness to receive applications of Philippine applicants for post-graduate degrees in various fields. He also welcomed Philippine distinguished faculty who may want to be part of KAU teaching and research staff.
The KAU President affirmed interest in cooperation agreements with Philippine top universities for possible educational exchanges and visits, joint scientific and academic research, and other forms of cooperation.
The Philippine Embassy earlier received notice from the Saudi Government on 150 scholarships dedicated to Filipinos. Earlier this year, Saudi Minister of Higher Dr. Khaled Al-Anqari during a meeting with the Philippine Ambassador confirmed the 150 scholarships for Filipinos.
The King Abdulaziz University also employs Filipino nurses and medical professionals in its university hospital. Dr. Al-Tayeb said the University is looking forward to employ more Filipino medical professionals to their nursing staff in the near future. He added that their experience with Filipino medical professionals through their work in the KAU Hospital has been excellent, describing Filipinos as “extremely professional”.
