KUWAIT CITY, May 6: The Kuwait Court of First Instance acquitted a Filipina Household Service Worker (HSW) who was charged with attempted murder by her Kuwaiti lady employer and has been released from the Kuwait Central Jail, disclosed Mar Hassan, the Assistance to Nationals Unit Officer at the Philippine Embassy on Monday to the Arab Times.

Maria Amor Corbilla, 34, married, a native of Pulangi, Albay in the Bicol region in the Philippines was turned over to the Philippine Embassy last weekend and is now staying temporarily at the Filipino Workers Resource Centre in Faiha while waiting for her repatriation to the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines – A prominent Kuwaiti human rights lawyer who volunteered to represent a Filipina rape victim has claimed that the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait prevented them from speaking to the Pinay.

Sheikha Fawzia al-Sabah was dismayed after the embassy did not allow them to talk to “Marissa” (not her real name), the Filipina raped and left for dead by a Kuwait traffic police officer in the desert of South Surra last October 1.

KUWAIT: The number of residency violators in Kuwait reached 103,000 as of Sunday, dropping from 116,000 recorded a few months earlier when the Ministry of Interior launched a series of wide scale crackdowns that are continuing throughout the country.

Kuwait: Expatriates in Kuwait sent a total of $ 50.7 billion to their relatives back home from 2006 to 2010, local daily reported quoting sources.

Sources revealed results of financial study conducted recently showed that foreigners in Saudi Arabia have the highest amount of total remittance among their counterpart in the GCC within the above mentioned period with $ 112.2 billion; while Kuwait was ranked second.

KUWAIT: The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Ahmad Al-Rujaib issued a ministerial decision regulating the process of changing domestic iqamas into work permits in the private sector, taking the interior ministry rules into consideration. A statement said the decision has three conditions, including that the transfer should be for the same employer and that the helper should have had the iqama before May 1. The decision is in effect from June 1 until Nov 30.

KUWAIT: In continuation of security inspection campaigns on illegal residents and violators of residency laws, a special inspection campaign was launched at dawn yesterday at Amghara scrap market. The campaign resulted in the arrest of 338 expatriates, including illegal residents in violation of residency laws, absconding domestic labourers and 12 people wanted for alcohol and drug trading. All suspects were referred to the relevant authorities.
