The Philippine tradition of Santacruzan has since become a yearly observance at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels located near the junction of Freeways 101 and 110 in Los Angeles. The one held morning of May 12 was its eighth under the auspices of the Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The event supposedly commemorates the search of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena and her son, Constantine. They are being accompanied by others representing various personages in the bible and history. The finding of the cross was a happy occasion deserving of a triumphant march.<\/p>\n

Sr. M. Christina O. Sevilla, RGS, former head of the ministry, was quoted last time saying that these celebrations are used \u201cas a catechetical tool for a deeper appreciation of the role woman played and still plays in our salvation history and for girls and women to discover the stories of great women in the Bible for them to have other role models of who a woman is\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Fr. Albert Avenido is just as capable as moderator of the ministry. He shepherded the parade of beauties to its successful conclusion. A 9:00 am mass had the Rev. Joel Henson, Director of Students at St. John\u2019s Seminary, as main celebrant.<\/p>\n
