{"id":7580,"date":"2012-11-22T09:49:48","date_gmt":"2012-11-22T06:49:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/patnubay.org\/?p=7580"},"modified":"2019-06-14T18:12:34","modified_gmt":"2019-06-14T15:12:34","slug":"kuwait-lawyer-denied-from-talking-to-pinay-rape-victim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patnubay.org\/?p=7580","title":{"rendered":"Kuwait: Lawyer denied from talking to Pinay rape victim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lawyer denied from talking to Pinay rape victim<\/strong><br \/>\nBy Maxxy Santiago, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau<br \/>\nFirst posted in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abs-cbnnews.com\/global-filipino\/11\/22\/12\/lawyer-denied-talking-pinay-rape-victim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0abs-cbnnews.com\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>MANILA, Philippines \u2013 A prominent Kuwaiti human rights lawyer who volunteered to represent a Filipina rape victim has claimed that the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait prevented them from speaking to the Pinay.<\/p>\n<p>Sheikha Fawzia al-Sabah was dismayed after the embassy did not allow them to talk to \u201cMarissa\u201d (not her real name), the Filipina raped and left for dead by a Kuwait traffic police officer in the desert of South Surra last October 1.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Sheikha Fawzia, who spoke in Arabic, said Marissa was brought to the Philippine embassy when she was discharged from the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assign a lawyer from my office that went to the Philippine Embassy, sad to say, the Philippine embassy refused our lawyer to see Marissa,\u201d Sheikha Fawzia said.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer volunteered, pro bono, to represent Marissa in her case while she was still recuperating in the hospital. However, since the time she returned to the embassy, they could not meet up with her to make the necessary arrangements regarding her case.<\/p>\n<p>According to Marissa, the embassy asked her to sign a special power of attorney (SPA) written in Arabic designating lawyer Ayed al-Subaie as her legal counsel.
