Yakutia court toughens punishment for ex-policeman and his wife who kidnapped a Filipino cleaning lady

INTERFAX – DALNYY VOSTOK – The Supreme Court of Yakutia has changed the verdict of the former Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption (OEBiPK) of the Russian Interior Ministry “Yakutskoe” Alexander Levadny and his wife in the case of beating and illegal imprisonment of a Filipina cleaner, the press service of the court reports.

“By partial addition of sentences, Levadny was finally sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony,” the message says.

He was also denied the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies and was stripped of his rank.

His wife, Christina Levadnaya, was sentenced to 4 years in prison in a general regime correctional colony. The punishment was suspended until her children reached the age of 14.

It is clarified that the Levadnykh lawyers are going to appeal the court decision.

As reported, in 2017, a citizen of the Philippines worked in the cleaning company “Clean House”, which was owned by Levadnaya. However, due to the fact that she was not paid a salary for some time, she quit. The former employer and her husband, a police lieutenant colonel, found the foreign woman at a new place of work, forcibly took her to an apartment, where they were beaten and held for several days. She later managed to escape through the window.

She took refuge with a former client, a local entrepreneur, who called an ambulance and the police for her. After a while, the Levadnyes came to the businessman and tried to get into the apartment by force. A fight broke out between the men, the doctors who came to the call became eyewitnesses.

Criminal cases were initiated against the policeman under Part 3 of Art. 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (unlawful imprisonment with causing grave consequences), part 3 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of power). He was dismissed from service.

Also, criminal cases were initiated against the wife of a police officer under Part 3 of Art. 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Part 1 of Art. 322.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on suspicion of organizing an illegal migration channel. However, later under Art. 322.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, she was acquitted for lack of corpus delicti.

On July 16, 2019, the Yakutsk City Court sentenced Aleksandr Levadniy to 5 years of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of 3 years. His wife received a four-year suspended sentence with a two-year probationary period.
