April 28, 2021, Tawau Sabah: A Filipino laborer was sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court here, today for killing his friend by slitting the man’s neck until it almost broke, three years ago.

Judge Dr Lim Hock Leng made the decision after the accused, Robin Radjani Saih, 49, was found guilty of the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code (PC) for murder.

The accused, who worked as a laborer lifting fertilizer, was found guilty of killing Fazrin Ibrahim, 30, at the Taman Warisan 4 entrance junction, Lahad Datu, between 1.20pm and 1.40pm on April 24, 2018, allegedly due to debt problems.

In his judgment, Lim said the court was of the view that the prosecution had proved the element of murder beyond a reasonable doubt and therefore the accused was sentenced to be hanged to death.

Upon hearing the sentence, the accused looked calm as he remained silent but occasionally lowered his face to the floor.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammed Ali Imran prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Darmin Achok.

A total of nine prosecution witnesses were called throughout the trial.

On April 24, 2018, the media reported that a man died in a horrible condition when his neck was almost broken as a result of being cut by his acquaintance using a ‘barong’ machete.
