A Filipina expatriate working in Kuwait, 10 days after attempting to commit suicide, accused her Arab sponsor of detaining her and torturing her continuously for two years; which prompted her to attempt suicide.

The Filipino woman – who is in the middle of her second decade of life, on the 16th of this month – took a cleaning fluid for bathrooms with the intention of ending her life, and then entered into a coma that woke up in Al Amiri Hospital after ten days.

A security source told the Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Anbaa, that they received a notification as soon as the maid arrived at the hospital and entered a coma, and a felony attempted to commit suicide was recorded against her, before the security authorities received a telegram – yesterday – indicating her improvement in her condition, as the detectives went to the hospital to investigate the reasons for her taking Suicide.

The source stated, quoting the maid, “She has been detained for two years and is always beaten by her sponsor, and that she consumed a cup of cleaning fluid with the intention of suicide,” noting that the last assault occurred on her in the month of March, after which she tried to escape and was unable to do so.

The security source confirmed that instructions had been issued to control the Arab sponsor to investigate her and uncover the truth about the accusations directed at her by the maid.

Previous incidents of assault on Filipino workers in Kuwait caused tension between the two countries and the prohibition of sending workers for months due to the death of some maids after torture, before these cases were resolved and those convicted of torturing and killing workers were tried and special agreements signed between the two countries in this regard.
