HAGIT Hero: Gov. Evelio Javier

Aside from educating the younger generation about Honesty, Accountability, Good Governance, Integrity and Transparency (HAGIT), it is also our objective to give tribute to those who stood up and fought for the HAGIT principles. Dear readers, we would like to introduce our sixth HAGIT Hero, the late Gov.  Evelio Javier.

Evelio Bellaflor Javier (October 14, 1942 – February 11, 1986) was a Filipino lawyer, civil servant, politician, and an oppositionist during the authoritarian regime of President Ferdinand Marcos. Due to these activities, he was assassinated by the regime on February 11, 1986.

Evelio Javier was born on October 14, 1942, in Barangay Lanag (now Brgy. Evelio Javier), Hamtic, Antique, to Everardo Autajay Javier (Moscoso) and Feliza Bellaflor. Noong September 29, 2010, isinama po ako ng Center for Migrant Advocacy (CMA) sa orientation seminar ng DFA OUMWA at OWWA para sa mga Foreign Service Officers nila. Nagkaroon po ako ng tsansa na makapagsalita at masabi ang aking hinanakit laban sa DFA at embahada ng Riyadh.

Inamin at sinabi ni Atty Rico Fos (Special Assistant to Usec Conejos) sa akin at sa mga attendees na maraming lapses ang OUMWA at Embassy officers sa paghandle ng aking kaso. Dagdag pa Atty Fos, “We owe him an apology!”.

Nagpapasalamat ako na alam nila ang kanilang pagkakamali. Pero hindi po sapat yon para sa aking mga hinaing. Hindi lang po yon ang kahilingan na sinabi ko sa harapan nila. Heto po ang aking sinabi doon at kayo na po ang bahalang umintindi.

Ginamit lamang ng mga politiko ang salitang “cyber crime” pero ang katotohanan ay sadyang gumawa sila ng batas (cyber-libel) para patatahimikin ang mga mamamayan na nagmamasid at pumupuna sa kanilang mga pagkakamali.

Applicable lamang ang cyber-libel kung ang internet ay gagamitin para sa hindi makatarungang paninira sa reputasyon ng mga ordinaryong mamamayan, relihiyon at institusyon.

Pero hindi dapat applicable ang cyber-libel laban sa pagbabatikos ng mga kawatan, criminal at lahat ng nananapak ng karapatang pantao.

Hindi applicable ang cyber-libel law laban sa pagbabatikos sa lahat ng mga politiko o isip-politiko dahil sa mga sumusunod:

USA: July 27, 2012 – ABS-CBN Foundation International headed by Robbie Fabian deserves plaudits for its decision not to go through with its participation in the 100 Outstanding Filipino Americans in the USA awards-dinner slated tomorrow, July 28, at the Universal Hilton, Los Angeles.

Earlier, Mr. Fabian, president of the Foundation, also informed that Tina Palma, Program Director of Bantay Bata, “has decided to cancel her trip to the U.S. to attend this Saturday’s awards dinner for the 100 Outstanding Filipino Americans.” It was also learned that Gina Lopez, Managing Director of ABS-CBN Foundation, had aborted an earlier decision to attend the event.
